In the early 1950s, Swedish luminaires broke into the US market and George Nelson was so impressed with this new design proposal that he wanted one for his office.

The high price and poor accessibility of it prevented him from acquiring one, but it also inspired him to design his own lamp. The result is a series of already iconic wall and suspension lamps.

George Nelson managed to create timeless and sophisticated-looking luminaires starting from elementary and spherical shapes such as an apple, a pear or a cigar, and the use of modern materials such as brushed steel and walnut.

The plastic polymer shade with a steel structure revolutionized the market since, thanks to this material, the light source is abundant, diffuse and omnidirectional.
